Geriatric care, also referred to as long term care is often provided to the elderly that have long term physical or psychological impairments and need assistance with personal care needs. Geriatric care is most often providing assistance of daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, using the toilet, and mobility around one's home or assisted living center for people with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia.

Some other common geriatric care services focus on helping a patient with paying bills, housework, taking medication, shopping, and caring for pets. Most geriatric care services are conducted by a skilled nurse, home health or home health care aide, or a therapist who will make visits to the patient's home.

While geriatric care focuses on supporting patients with a long term illness, it can be provided to patients by skilled nurses and caregivers at home, or in assisted living or nursing homes. Geriatric care is typically needed by elders with physical or mental impairments where various care options will help them remain a quality of life and independence for as long as possible before most likely needing to be placed into a nursing home.

Geriatric care providers will become a partner with you, your family, and your other doctors, while supporting you and your family every step of the way, not just by controlling your loved one's symptoms, but by helping you to understand your loved one's health goals, daily activities, and other treatment options.
